So let the countdown begin.
Starting things off at the number 11 spot with a trailer that was expected but still managed to take everyone by surprise and by the end raised more questions than it gave answers.
11. Beyond: Two Souls
Quantic Dream seem to have made it a tradition to blow people away by the direction their games take. The studio does not make games based on any genre known to the norms of the gaming industry but rather have created a genre of their own.
Call it interactive drama, a playable movie or whatever the reader prefers but Heavy Rain was a title that no other studio would have dared do. The game was a huge risk and it paid off big time with Heavy Rain proving to be a massive hit as it ventured into uncharted territory and succeeding in creating a whole new gaming experience.
David Cage, the co-founder of the studio, made his way on to centre stage at the Sony E3 Press Conference and the gaming world what everyone was waiting so eagerly to hear and more importantly see, Quantic Dream’s new game.
After announcing that Hollywood actress, Ellen Page, would be in the game, Cage went on to show a clip from the game which showed, well, the game’s main character in a sheriff’s office not talking much as the sheriff did his best to find out who the girl was and where she had come from.
The facial expression and attention to detail was one of the first thing that everyone noticed and it was plain to see that Quantic Dream had made huge progress in their technology from their earlier work on Heavy Rain.
The trailer took on a completely different tone not two seconds after the sheriff left his office to get a cup of coffee as a S.W.A.T team rushed the building and took up positions around the sheriff’s office before their commanding officer asked the sheriff to open the door of his office.
The door opened to a room with no Ellen Page and faster than the blink of an eye, the trailer went into montage mode and showed off snippets of action, drama and suspense of what could have so easily been mistaken for a movie trailer.
The trailer did what it was supposed and got everyone excited about Quantic Dream’s next title, which is why it comes in at 11.
