Sony Computer Entertainment America E3 Press Conference 2012

There were a number of brilliant trailers, some of which many will argue warrant the top spot, however, wishfree.com chose a trailer that sent a shiver up everyone’s spine and that too the good kind.

1. Assassin’s Creed 3

It was a close call between Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us, Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed 3. While many may argue that the first two trailers showed off gameplay footage while the Assassin’s Creed trailer was CGI, this countdown was for trailers of all sorts.

Ubisoft has a tradition of impressing with their Assassin’s Creed trailers at E3 and who can forget Altair’s debut all those years ago. The publisher followed that up well with the trailer for Assassin’s Creed 2 and Brotherhood’s trailer really raised the bar.

However, last year’s Assassin’s Creed Revelations trailer was by far the best one in the series so far and it gave Woodkid’s track ‘Iron’ plenty of playtime. This year however, the bar was well and truly raised as Ubisoft showed off once again how CGI trailers should be done.

The trailer started off with a wide shot of a battle going on in the distance before panning out to a Bald Eagle perched on a tree. The American revolutionaries were being hammered by the British colonialists as the eagle began gliding through the trees in the forest before being replaced by the game’s protagonist, Connor, a blink of an eye later.

Connor broke the tree line and made his way to a horse before jumping over the defences and galloping head on into the British lines. His horse was shot in the process and he avoided the second wave of shots by the British before taking advantage of the long reload times and jumping through the enemy’s lines.

A few slow motion kills later Connor was in the air as he fired a bow into the chest of the British General, who happened to be Templar, the sworn enemy of the Assassins.

It’s the kind of trailer one would download and keep on their hard drives as a treasured memory, as is the case with every Assassin’s Creed CGI trailer and it only makes one wonder what the next trailer from Ubisoft will hold. It surely cannot be better than this but the publisher has been known to prove everyone wrong before.

For raising the bar once again in the CGI trailer department, Assassin’s Creed 3 is wishfree.com’s winner for the Best E3 Trailer Award for 2012.

What did the reader think of the Assassin’s Creed 3 trailer? Did it warrant the number one spot or did they prefer any of the other trailers? Let us know in the comments section below.
