Bungie recently gave a behind-closed-doors presentation on their upcoming title, the details of which have been leaked by an anonymous attendee. So what is the game all about? We take a look.
Halo 4 may have hit stores yesterday but it was instantly compared to the previous Halo trilogy and prequel, which was developed by none other than Bungie. The studio created the vast, rich universe that is Halo and its protagonist, Master Chief is one of the industry most iconic characters.
Bungie believed they had done all they could with the Halo universe and told the story they wanted to tell with the prequel to the trilogy, Halo: Reach, their final entry in the series. Microsoft snapped up 343 Industries to revive the series but its spiritual home will always be Bungie.
The studio has since left Microsoft exclusivity and left the Halo IP. That does not mean they are out the game development business as the studio confirmed earlier on in the year that they were working on a completely new IP.
It turns out that the IP is Destiny and no other details of the game had been released and they still haven’t been, at least in an official capacity, as the only info anyone has comes from an anonymous source who claims to have attended a secret presentation held by Bungie.
According to him, the game is focused on co-operative gameplay with a vast world where players interact with each other in different situations on different locations.
The description read:
“We did manage to experience entering a zone to find other players already taking on the bad guys, it’s cooperative so we helped out (mostly [name removed], I just died) before both groups went their separate ways.” Before continuing, “Which is a pretty cool experience, making you feel you are part of a much larger populated world.”
Sounds interesting, an open-world first-person shooter, which fits in with the earlier ‘Destiny is a MMO styled action shooter’ rumours.
The description of the game continued, “At the end of the day I was excited about the game, I like the feel of being in a large world with different destinations and the interactions along the way.”
At the same time the game is set to boast customization options to allow each character to be unique and to stand out.
“I’m not fully sold on the appeal of being able to change the colour of a weapon, but I guess it works in China, and customization and individual identity is a big theme for the game.”
What do you make of the leaked info? Is it worth getting excited about or would you rather see it for yourself before coming to any conclusions? Let us know in the comments section below.
