Stone Cold Steve Austin promotes his latest DVD - London

Stone Cold Steve Austin will be available as a playable character on the game’s roster but only for those who order THQ’s latest title from GAME or GameStation.

THQ may have lost the rights to UFC but they still have the WWE franchise and the massive fan base that comes with it. With the Ultimate Fighting Championship out of the way the publisher seems to be turning its full attention to the WWE and plans to launch on across all the major platforms in the market at the moment and yes, that includes the Nintendo Wii as well.

The publisher has also announced a special edition of the upcoming game as well with plenty of in-game content as well as real world apparel as well.

Starting things off is a copy of the WWE ’13 video game, which is pretty obvious. Alongside that there is an “exclusive collectible art card personally autographed by Stone Cold Steve Austin. At this point it would be wise to point out that both GAME and GameStation only have limited stock on the Collectible Edition, so if anyone wants to get their hands on it they need to move fast.

Alongside the autograph is the Stone Cold Steve Austin in-game attire which is basically the circa 2001 red skull t-shirt.

As for in-game content itself, well players will be able to make use of the Stone Cold Steve Austin in-game entrance; the one where he makes an entrance on the ATV.

Gamers will also gain access to the WWE Hall of Fame member, Mike Tyson, who is a playable character in the game. The only other way to unlock the former boxing legend is to pre-order the game.

The Collector’s Edition also has the “Stone Cold Steve Austin: The Bottom Line on the Most Popular Superstar of All Time” DVD, which any wrestling fan old enough to remember Austin 3:16 would be interested in.

The entire Collector’s Edition will come packed in “Exclusive foil packaging featuring embossed Stone Cold Steve Austin skull,” which will look pretty cool in the many unboxing videos one can expect to pop up on the internet.

THQ seems to have a lot riding on the upcoming game seeing how they portfolio of IP’s has thinned out considerably since the loss of UFC. Plenty is riding on WWE ’13 being a success and keeping the financially troubled publisher staying afloat until the next Saints Row game is released.

In fact, one of the only reasons THQ is still able to survive is due to the revenue brought by the sales of their title Saint’s Row The Third.

Whether or not WWE ’13 proves to be a success in terms of sales remains to be seen but THQ seem to be doing everything they can on the marketing front to make sure it will.
